Description
The Texas License to Carry course is not a marksmanship training class. Students are expected to come to class equpiped to safely and effecitvely use their firearm. If you are new or require more training to demonstrate this level of proficiency, we recommend our New Pistol Shooter class or a 90-minute private lesson with one of our highly qualified instructors.
The License To Carry includes both the state-required classroom portion and the shooting proficiency test, meeting the requirements for training for new LTC applicants.
LTC Classroom Instruction
The LTC classroom instruction includes 4 hours of instruction on the following modules:
•Laws & Deadly Force
•Handgun Use & Safety
•Non-Violent Dispute Resolution
•Handgun Storage
To successfully complete the classroom portion of the LTC, students must pass a 25 question assessment based on the modules above.
LTC Proficiency Test
The LTC Profiency Test consists of a 50-round shooting proficiency test. To successfully qualify, applicants must complete the following course of fire with a minimum score of 70% .
If any malfunctions are encountered, the shooter must work through the problem and finish the course of fire. If rounds are held (not fired within the allotted time), the shots will be scored as misses.
Course of Fire
Stage 1: Twenty shots (20) fired from 3 yards
•Five (5) shots fired in a “One Shot Exercise” 2 seconds allowed for each shot.
•Ten (10) shots fired in a “Two Shot Exercise” 3 seconds allowed for each two shot sequence.
•Five (5) shots fired in 10 seconds.
Stage 2: Twenty shots (20) fired from 7 yards
•Five (5) shots fired in 10 seconds.
•Five (5) shots fired in 2 stages:
•Two (2) shots fired in 4 seconds
•Three (3) shots fired in 6 seconds
•Five (5) shots fired in a “One Shot Exercise” 3 seconds allowed for each shot.
•Five (5) shotes fired in 15 seconds.
Stage 3: Ten shots (10) fired from 15 yards
•Five (5) shots fired in two stages:
•Two (2) shots fired in 6 seconds.
•Three (3) shots fired in 9 seconds.
•Five (5) shots fired in 15 seconds
Hours: 6 hours
Maximum Number of Students: 16
Prerequisites
Ability to safely and effective use a pistol or revolver.
Required Gear
•State-issued driver’s license
•Semi-automatic pistol or revolver (.22LR or greater) Lasers are prohibited.
• 50 rounds of factory FMJ ammunition (reloads are prohibited)
Waiver:
If you haven’t completed our online waiver, please do so by clicking here. It must be completed prior to live fire training. This waiver is good for one year.
COURSE REGISTRATION TERMS & CONDITIONS
Attendance Policy: If you are unable to attend the class, you may request a refund or transfer to another class up to 72 hours prior to the class and will be subject to a $35 rescheduling/cancelation fee. No refunds or reschedules will be provided within 72 hours of the class or after the class. Please email the Training Department at training@therangeaustin.com to request a refund or reschedule your class.
Late Arrival To Class: Due to the safety briefing held at the beginning of the class, students are allotted a 5-minute grace period to arrive. Any student who arrives after 5 minutes past the start time will be considered a “No-Show” and will need to purchase the class again at a later date.
Safety Acknowledgement: Students must understand that this is not a basic firearms class. Students who fail to abide by firearm safety rules or demonstrate an inability to operate the firearm safely may be removed from the class at the instructor’s discretion.
